CHINCH BUGS
IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS & SYMPTOMS
Chinchbugs are surface-feeding lawn pests that damage St. Augustinegrass. You may see them on grasses such as Zoysia, Bermuda, and Centipedegrass, but infestations usually occur where high populations have built up on St. Augustinegrass. Signs of infestation include small, round patches of brownish-yellow grass that first appear in hottest, driest areas of lawn. Left uncontrolled, large areas of lawn may die. Symptoms include yellow to brown patches in St. Augustine grass: usually shows up in hottest, driest areas of the lawn.
GRUB WORMS
IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS & SYMPTOMS
White Grubs, the larvae of certain Beetles, are the most notorious of all turf-damaging soil insects. In the spring, Grubs live in the top few inches of soil, feeding on the roots of lawn grasses and destroying the turf above. In early summer, Grubs become Beetles that emerge from the larvae to become leaf-feeding adults that dmaage roses, trees and other plants above ground.Symptoms include dead or dying grass in brown patches that lifts up easily when you pull on grass; grass wilts even when watered.
ARMY WORMS
IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS & SYMPTOMS
Fall Armyworms cause damage by consuming foliage. Outbreaks can be sudden and very severe. Damage usually begins to show up as leaves chewed around the edges. Because most feeding is at night, Armyworms can cause significant damage before the problem is ever identified. As the name implies, Fall Armyworms damage is most common from September until hard frost. Symptoms include arcs and circle of brown dead grass.
